Having something that blows your mind and changes your preconceived notions is amazing and earth shattering at the same time. The last time I visited Hopetown Abaco I didn’t get a chance to visit the coffee shop myself, because well I had over indulged the night before.
Here’s a full recap of that experience if your interested.
Now I’ve never been a man that enjoyed coffee that much, except for the rare occasion when it was used as a rescue aid, which doesn’t happen to often. I think my dislike stemmed from the dry bitter taste that had affected my taste buds the very first time I was introduced to this liquid elixir and not to mention I’m really hyper active without the added caffeine, so I try to stay away.
But as I entered Hopetown on my second voyage, I vowed to experience coffee made by the hands of a true barista to see how well my preconceived notions would fare.
Diving in without hesitation I ordered a double mocha and it was deliciously good. Not only was it better than expected, I didn’t have to modify it’s natural taste, with a load of cream or an excessive indulgence in sugar.
To accompany my coffee I also had a egg, bacon and cheese sandwich. But something was different about this sandwich, the egg was fluffy, smooth even. In my foodie mind, I think the secret might have been heavy cream, but I could be wrong.
Needless to say I was already half way through my meal, when the owner appeared from behind the counter to ask me if I would like anything else, sitting there with a mouth full of food and a bewildered look!
I managed to utter, ” what do u have in mind?”
She said well if your enjoying your meal so far, I have a pepper jelly that could only make it better.
I was like what, a pepper jelly.
As I tried to replay the words in my mind.
Taking this as a yes. She disappeared quickly behind the counter and reappeared, and so it commenced, with a squirt of pepper jelly directly onto my plate and I started to dip the edges of my sandwich until it existed no more.
To say I enjoyed my breakfast is an understatement.
Who would have thought I could find bold coffee flavor, impeccable sandwiches and five star customer service at a boutique coffee shop in the Bahama islands.
If you have your sights set on Abaco in the future, jump on a ferry and head on over to Hopetown and give this quaint shop a visit and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Also if you get carried away like me with the exceptional experience you can always tuck a bag of fresh roasted coffee under your arm, for more delicious sampling later.
