Bimini_The simple life

Ah, for all of us summer time is steadily approaching and with the birds chirping, the wife nagging, kids running about and endless streams of household chores to do, isn’t it refreshing to know there are some folks out there who don’t care about any of that stuff.

Imagine yourself being wafted away to a place, where the waters are azul blue, shoes are optional and school is in. But class is held in the ocean and your instructor totes a pair of goggles instead of a laptop. This is not some altered reality, this is Guy Harvey’s Big Game Club in Bimini, Bahamas.

The Bimini Big game Club is world renowned for two things: Big fish and even bigger, larger than life stories.
The club has a rich and cultured history dating back to the days of old when Ernest Hemingway himself traipsed down to the island for its storied quiet getaways and the indulgence of a good bottle of rum.

The History:

Being enchanted by the beauty of the island, and the quiet serenity of it all. Hemingway was able to channel his creative genius and produce many a great work after being rejuvenated by the secret restoring waters in and around the Bimini islands.

The gin-clear waters surrounding Bimini led to the early intrigue that kept fishermen and dive enthusiasts coming back year after year, which also led to the early popularity of this jewel in the sea.

While prosperity came and went quickly during the 1920′s and the era of Prohibition, the appeal of Bimini lived through the exploits of noted sportsmen, industrialists and philanthropists who ventured to Bimini for world-class fishing.

The Original:

The original Big game club was opened in 1936, by Nassau Entrepreneur Neville Stuart and in short order it became the main attraction for sport fisherman from all over the world, as word got out about the legendary size catches being made.

The Club was later acquired by the Bacardi family, who positioned it as one of the world’s foremost big game angling resorts until its sale in 2000.

Guy Harvey:
Today, after several brief ownership changes, the Guy Harvey Outpost team brings a new energy to the Big Game Club but carries with it a familiar vision – to make the Club legendary for Out-Island hospitality and sportsmanship.

Guy Harvey a legend in his own rite is the man behind the Guy Harvey Outpost. Guy is a unique blend of artist, scientist, diver, angler, conservationist and explorer.

Using his in-depth knowledge of marine biology and conservation, Guy sought out to create a unique balance that not only seeked to conserve the natural habitat of the Bimini’s but provide divers, sportsmen and enthusiasts a place to enjoy for years to come.

Although things have changed and tempo has slowed a bit, the island has returned to its original glory of being a place where time pauses, the thrill of the catch is still exhilarating and the rum still flows.

So if your seeking to cutaway from the mundane day to day grind and take in some awesome diving, fishing or sipping rum while the day passes away; The Bimini Big Game club is your spot.
